AUGUSTA, Maine — The U.S. Small Business Administration announced its annual award winners for 2014. Mary Allen Lindemann and Alan Spear, owners of Coffee By Design, have been selected to receive the prestigious Small Business Person of the Year award for Maine.
“I am pleased to announce that Mary Allen Lindemann and Alan Spear, Owners of Coffee By Design, have been named the Small Business Administration’s Small Business Person(s) of the Year for Maine. Ms. Lindemann and Mr. Spear have achieved a long-standing record of success in a very competitive business,” said Marilyn Geroux, SBA District Director for Maine, said in a press release. “I am delighted that the Small Business Administration has been able to help the company grow by using our loan programs.”
Coffee By Design started as a single coffee house in Portland in 1994. Since that time, the company has grown to 51 employees in four retail locations. The company also roasts more than 30 specialty coffees. Lindemann and Spear attribute their success to providing high quality products, as well as a commitment to the community and the environment on a local and global level.
Lindemann and Spear will be honored at an SBA celebration luncheon at noon on June 17, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport.
