SACO, Maine – In 2013, Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution was once again able to donate more than $332,000, shared by more than 375 organizations and non-profits throughout the Southern Maine area, and other non-profit chapters in Maine. This was the 12th consecutive year that the bank was able to donate more than $300,000.

Beneficiaries include food pantries and meal programs, schools, service programs, health and wellness programs, the arts, environmental preservation programs and many other local non-profits.

“We are proud to continue our support of area non-profits and organizations in these difficult times when the need is greater than ever,” said Kevin Savage, president of Saco & Biddeford Savings.

Part of the bank’s 2013 donation included over $13,000 that was contributed to local food pantries and meal programs just after the start of the new year to help restock shelves that were depleted from the holidays. This most recent donation is in addition to the support that the bank provides these food programs throughout the year.

“We have found that everyone puts so much emphasis on donating to food pantries during the holidays and that shelves end up bare at year’s end,” said Donald Lauzier, Community Relations Director of Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution, “This is our way of helping them kick-start the new year”.

In addition to the bank’s contributions, a monthly employee Jean’s Day helped raise an additional $2,000 that went to local non-profits that were selected by the bank’s employees.

“All in all, we are really proud of the support that our bank and our employees have been able to provide to the people and organizations in our communities throughout the year. That’s what being a local mutual community bank is all about”, adds Savage.

Founded in 1827 and headquartered in Saco, Saco & Biddeford Savings is Maine’s oldest bank with branches located in Biddeford, Old Orchard Beach, Scarborough, South Portland and Westbrook. As a leader in community banking, Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution has contributed more than $3.5 million to area organizations over the last 10 years and continues to support the needs of the communities it serves. The Bank was recognized in 2011 for “Best Places to Work in Maine.” Saco & Biddeford Savings is a Member FDIC and an Equal Housing Lender.
