Rockland Emblem Club to Host Bake Sale/Craft Item/Book Sale at the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce Auction on November 16

The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce changes to our live auction event for 2013. Our live auction on Saturday, November 16 will feature new preview hours from 1pm to 6pm, with the live bidding starting at 6pm. In addition, the Rockland Emblem Club #200 will be hosting a bake sale, “Books are Fun” fundraiser, Straw raffle and handcrafted items sale from 1 pm to 8pm.

The Emblem Club bake sale table will offer fresh baked items, fudge, breads and sweets. There will also be new educational books and toys for children that you can purchase as part of a “Books Are Fun” fundraising program. Based on the overall book/toy sales generated at the event with this special fundraising program, the Emblem Club will earn books that will be donated to local school children as part of their own Literacy Program. In addition, there will be a Straw Raffle (with chances for a dollar each for items or gift certificates donated by Emblem members and local businesses) as well as hand-crafted items available for purchase. The Emblem Club was formed over 85 years ago in Rhode Island. It is a national organization with clubs in most states around the country. The mission of the Emblem Club has always been to help those in need. Most of the clubs are affiliated with the Elks Lodges in their area. The Rockland Emblem Club has existed for nearly 60 years. During that time, they have given their support to many local, as well as statewide, charities. Some, but not all include: New Hope for Women, all the local food pantries, Meals on Wheels, Knox County Health Clinic, Fuel Assistance program, many children’s programs and state-wide programs such as Make-A-Wish and Ronald McDonald House. We try to find the areas of greatest need and help with whatever request might be the most urgent. At Christmas, the Rockland Emblem Club provides gifts for 75-80 residents of local group homes, nursing homes or shut-in’s who do not have families who can do this for them.

The Emblem Club also focuses on the needs of local children. They have provided items for local police departments for children in crisis; backpacks with items for children whose parent is being deployed; back-to-school items for children in Head Start; and many other similar programs over the years. Our local Club provides several scholarships every year to graduating seniors. Most of the money raised for our many charities and projects are raised through a food concession at the Bruce Gamage auctions and the Elks weekly Beano. Their largest single fundraiser is a Craft Fair held in November at the Rockland Elks Lodge. For more information, visit www.rocklandemblemclub.org.

The Chamber online auction bidding will run from October 21 at 8am through November 11 at 9pm, with about 100 items heading to the live auction on Saturday, November 16 at the Rockland Elks Lodge, located at 210 Rankin Street in Rockland. There are already over 175 items up for bid, with more arriving on a daily basis. All money raised supports our mission of promoting the interests of our members by advocating for the commercial and economic development of the region.

At the November 16 event, there will be auction items, cash raffle prizes, raffle items, a cash bar and a concession stand. Bruce & Becky Gamage will be our auctioneer team. The live auction items will be clearly identified on the web site and absentee bidding will be available for those that cannot attend the live event. The PBRCC Auction is a valuable online marketing tool for businesses and organizations. Although the PBRCC Auction is still a few months away, we’re eager to accept donations of items to put up for bid on our special auction web site. The sooner you sign on, the more promotion you’ll enjoy as a donor.

Items up for bid include business services, artwork, unique experiences, travel, lodging packages, dining, recreational activities, gift baskets, train rides, boat trips, festival tickets, landscaping supplies and much, much more.
