Don your flapper dresses and your top hats, your knickerbockers and your sweater vests, your feathers and your fur; The Eastport Arts Center will host a Roaring 20’s Dance on August 1st. Featuring the swell and swanky music of the Orange River Jazz Band, this dress-up dance party won’t disappoint! This very popular Jazz Age-inspired soiree started two years ago, spearheaded by two active community members. This year, the Eastport Arts Center will take the reigns in hopes of carrying on the tradition for what will become an annual event. Proceeds from the event will go towards the continuation of lively programming through the winter months.
The Orange River Jazz Band has been providing Downeast Maine with toe-tapping, big-brass sound for over 60 years. Band members Gene Nichols, Charlie Fritz, Alvin Hall, Hovey Hall, Brenda Norris, and Gordon Phillips will have you doing the Charleston long into the night. Not a hoofer? No need to be a wet blanket! There will be plenty of music, spiffy outfits, and jolly company to make this event the bees knees for any and all attendees. Daddies, dappers, flappers, rag-a-muffins, janes and shebas – commemorate the night in our period photo booth for a small fee.
Juice joint seekers can purchase a “wet” ticket for $25 per individual, $40 per couple. “Dry” tickets are available for $15 per individual, $25 per couple. Tickets are available at the door, or by calling the EAC at 853-4650.
