On Saturday April 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Island Housing Trust (IHT) will showcase two occupied homes at Ripples Hill, located on the Beech Hill Road within the village of Somesville. Currently, there are three lots available to be built on by qualified individuals and families working on MDI. These modestly priced homes were designed by architect John Gordon and all materials and construction design meets Maine State Housing Authority’s Green Building Standards. The design allows for customizations to meet individual tastes and needs.
IHT raised the funds necessary to underwrite virtually all of the infrastructure costs for the first two phases of development on this 10-acre property to reduce construction costs to the buyer. The property was given to IHT by the Town of Mount Desert. Many years prior, the Rockefeller family donated this property to the Town for the express purpose of creating housing for those working on MDI. The Town, by deeding the land to IHT, helped fulfill the original intentions of the gift. IHT includes covenants in each deed to ensure the dwellings remain affordable for those working on MDI for generations to come.
An Easter egg hunt will take place during the open house for children. For directions and more information, visit www.islandhousingtrust.org or call 244-8011.
The Island Housing Trust (IHT) promotes viable, year-round island communities by creating home ownership opportunities that are affordable for people working on MDI. IHT has created 20 homeownership opportunities since 2008.
