BANGOR, Maine — A relief printing workshop instructed by Sally Gilbert 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays, Oct. 4 and 11, at University of Maine Museum of Art, 40 Harlow St. Cost is $75 for non-members; $65 for members or students with a UMaine I.D.

In this surface design class the guest artist combines her fine art background and her block printing knowledge to guide you in designing a hand carved linoleum block to print an edition of your own. The class will cover how to create a composition, transfer to a block, carve, pull proofs during the working process and fine tune the image on the block for pulling a final edition. Learn about the step by step process of block printing and view a selection of prints from the Museum collection. This class is designed for beginners but students of all levels are welcome. Prior drawing experience is helpful but not necessary.
