ART FOR THE PARK – ART SHOW AT REEL PIZZA TO BENEFIT PARK STREET PLAYGROUND PROJECT

Bar Harbor, ME, June 22, 2013– “Art for the Park,” recent works by Bar Harbor Batman, will be showing at Reel Pizza Cinerama in Bar Harbor beginning June 14 and running for four weeks as part of Art in the Lobby. All proceeds from sales of the artworks will be donated to the Park Street Playground Project.

The “Art for the Park” is super-hero and pop-culture themed works of art, coinciding with the premiere of Man of Steel, a new release film depicting one of the most notable superheroes, Superman. Pieces include repurposed buoys depicting comic characters emblems and canvas paintings.

The Park Street Playground’s mission is to create a safe and accessible outdoor environment that promotes health, imaginative play and developmental learning for the children of Bar Harbor and the neighboring MDI communities while uniting and strengthening our community by utilizing volunteer labor in a Community-Built Process.

The Park Street Playground Project is a joint venture under the direction of the Mount Desert Island YMCA and was established in the Spring of 2011 to remodel the town playground revitalizing a vital piece of town’s parks. Outdoor playground activities stimulate growth, improves social skills, and help with coordination. The current state of our local playground does not meet our community’s needs and we are working to change that. The revitalization effort will be updating the space with new equipment engaging to children from the ages of 2-12 years. The cost of purchasing and having a prefabricated modular playground installed is staggering. However, by implementing the community-built approach we will be able to bring to Bar Harbor a more custom designed unique playground.
