Bangor, ME- In the midst of autumn color and cooling temperatures, Rape Response Services announces its Annual Auction. This distinctive event provides an evening of fun, laughter, conversation, delicious hors d’oeuvres, lively music, and spirited bidding wars. Among the many items to be auctioned are an autographed Stephen King book, Josh Beckett autographed baseball donated by the Boston Red Sox, and a beautiful queen-sized quilt handcrafted by the Zonta Club of Bangor.

All proceeds will go to Rape Response Services to support victims and survivors of sexual violence and efforts to prevent all aspects of this violent crime. A recent study found that nearly one in five Maine residents reports that they have been the victim of rape or attempted rape during their lifetime; roughly 14,000 Maine residents may be the victim of rape or unwanted sexual activity during any 12 month period.

Rape Response Services continues to provide free and confidential services for individuals in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties, including crisis intervention, accompaniment to medical and legal appointments, support groups, professional trainings, and community and school-based education.
