PORTLAND, Maine — Putney, Inc., a rapidly growing pharmaceutical company focused on the development and sale of generic prescription medicines for pets, welcomes summer intern Michael LaFond as part of the new Innovate for Maine internship program, supported by the Blackstone Charitable Foundation. LaFond, who is earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance at the University of Maine, is conducting market research and sales analysis with Putney’s sales and marketing team.
The Innovate for Maine program was launched by the University of Maine’s Foster Center for Student Innovation in an effort to match companies developing new products or services with students who want to receive training in innovation and entrepreneurship through real-world job experience. The project is funded by the Blackstone Charitable Foundation through its five-year Entrepreneurship Initiative, a program dedicated to fostering innovation that leads to significant economic and job growth.
Jean Hoffman, president and CEO of Putney, says the Innovate for Maine program benefits both the student and the company. “We’re pleased to be part of this new program that provides an education beyond the classroom. Michael is learning about the problem-solving skills and creative approach required in a high growth, entrepreneurial business and Putney is gaining insights about its marketing effectiveness,” says Hoffman.
