Eastport Health Care and Calais Regional Hospital are excited to announce the joint recruitment of a Psychiatrist to Eastern Washington County. Dr. Ryan Smith, D.O., board-eligible psychiatrist, joined the medical staff of both organizations to provide much needed psychiatric services in the area on a part time basis.
Dr. Smith is a graduate of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM) in Biddeford, ME. He completed his internship in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and his residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He completed a one-year fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Maine Medical Center. Dr. Smith is also an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the Department of Primary Care at UNECOM, where he works four days a week, teaching the medical students, and developing curriculum. He is also active in several national boards representing medical education for both the osteopathic and psychiatric medical professions.
Dr. Smith is accepting new patients at both Eastport Health Care’s Eastport site and Calais Regional Hospital in the Calais Regional Medical Services offices. Dr. Smith is happy to see pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. Dr. Smith’s scope of practice will be largely based on the medical management of psychiatric illness, involving psychopharmacologic (drug) management, and other somatic treatments. He will not be able to see patients solely for psychotherapy, but can make recommendations for providers for such a service. Dr. Smith will be at Eastport Health Care one day a week on alternating Mondays and Fridays, and at Calais Regional Medical Services on Palmer St. every other weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
Appointments with Dr. Smith can be scheduled in Eastport at 853-6001 or in Calais at 454-3307. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Ryan Smith to Eastern Washington County.
