AUGUSTA, Maine – An event in Augusta for veterans on Oct. 8 will go on as scheduled while another event in Portland, originally scheduled for that same date, is being postponed.
The 2013 Hiring Our Heroes job fair in Augusta will take place 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Oct. 8, at Augusta Armory at 179 Western Ave. The general public is invited to attend as well as veterans and military personnel and their families. A workshop for veterans and other military job seekers focusing on resume writing, tips for successfully navigating hiring fairs, military-skill translation and interviewing will be held at 9 a.m. prior to the opening of the job fair. The Occupational Licensing and Job Fair scheduled for Oct. 8 at the Stevens Avenue National Guard Armory in Portland has been postponed to a later date, yet to be determined. Some of the key personnel involved with hosting and providing services to the event have been affected by the federal government shutdown. Information on the rescheduled event will be released as soon as it becomes available.
