Home Remedies, a Portland, Maine custom décor store, kicks off the holiday season in style this Friday, with a free holiday open house event. The November 30th event offers an afternoon brimming with holiday cheer, prizes, special offers, guest designers Leslie Evans and Celia St. Onge, and a book signing with ‘Lobster!’ author Brooke Dojny.
The open house will take place on Friday, November 30th from 12pm to 6pm at Home Remedies’ Portland, Maine location in the historic Star Match Building on 83 West Commercial Street.
“We are excited to celebrate the holiday season at Home Remedies in this special way,” said Home Remedies Owner Rachel Ambrose. “We see this event as a great way to celebrate the season and show our appreciation to our friends, both longtime and new. It is also quite a treat to have Brooke Dojny with us, who is such a creative and distinguished Maine author, and fabulous guest designers in Leslie Evans and Celia St. Onge.”
The Holiday Open House Event features the following special guests, activities and holiday offers:
-Festivities begin at 12pm with Door Prizes and Refreshments.
-“Ask the Designer” session with interior designer extraordinaire Celia St. Onge. Bring in a photo of a design dilemmas or design dreams for expert advice.
-Author Brooke Dojny will be signing copies of her new cookbook, ‘Lobster!’
-Leslie Evans answers questions and unveils new products, including seasonal runners, pillows, and scented balsam sachets.

The holiday open house event will feature a Maine business in the often overlooked western section of Portland’s bustling Commercial Street, and highlights a variety of products and services with Maine appeal.
Mrs. Ambrose opened Home Remedies in April of 2010, returning to her Maine roots after a 5-year stint running a similarly-themed home décor outlet in San Francisco. According to Maine Home Design, “Business entrepreneur Rachel Ambrose has created a new, off-the-beaten-path space showcasing an array of products ranging from home decor fabrics and wallpaper to furniture and local artwork.”
About Brooke Dojny
Brooke Dojny is the author or co-author of more than a dozen cookbooks, including Lobster!, Dishing Up Maine, The New England Clam Shack Cookbook, and the AMA Family Cookbook, which won the James Beard Award in 1997. She lives on the coast of Maine, where she can be found hanging out at clam shacks and farmers markets.

Leslie Evans Designs began with the creation of scented sachets in Leslie’s studio-workshop in her seaside barn in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Now, with the addition of pillows, table runners, tea towels, paper placemats and greeting cards, her products are sold in kitchen, gift and home decor stores in New England and beyond.

Celia runs Celia Bedilia, a custom interior design business in Portland, Maine. Her business started out as a home décor store in the city over ten years ago, but changed focus seven years ago when Celia decided to exit the retail aspect of the business and channel her expertise toward interior design consultation.
