Portland High student wins New England writing competition

PORTLAND, Maine – Francesca Butterfield, a junior at Portland High School, won this year’s Classical Association of New England Writing Contest.

Francesca will read her essay, “Eros’s Decision,” at the CANE annual banquet on March 7, at St. Anselm’s College in Manchester, N.H.

Francesca advanced to the New England competition by winning first place in Maine.  This year’s topic was “What Mighty Contests Rise from Trivial Things: Consequence in the Ancient World.”
