Peterson Trio to perform in Blue Hill
On Saturday, July 12, 7:30 – 9:10PM, the 2014 Vanderkay Summer Music Series will present the Peterson Trio, assisted by one of Maine’s foremost bassists, Wells Gordon.
It will be a rare treat to hear Prairie Home Companion veteran and radio host Jay perform with his talented children. Daughter Ingrid will be featured on most of the vocal selections, taken largely from the Great American Songbook. Fourteen-year-old Ingrid, who enters her sophomore year this fall at the Nova Classical Academy in St. Paul, Minnesota, will perform classic popular ballads from the mid-20th century, by composers such as Johnny Mercer, Hoagy Carmichael and Harold Arlen.
Dad Jay will offer up selections from his thick songbook of western swing and classic country material, from Hank Williams to Bob Wills. Backing up Jay and Ingrid will be Jay’s son and many-time GSA Jazz Band award winner Björn, and the capable Wells Gordon. It will be an evening of music with no expiration date, from blues to ballads, swing to sambas.
The concert takes place at 7:30 on July 12, at the Congregational Church in Blue Hill. There is a 20$ suggested donation, which is waived for students. For information call 374-2891 or visit www.bluehillcongochurch.org
