BANGOR, Maine — On behalf of the TJX Foundation, Mitzi Rogers, Store Manager of the TJ Maxx store in Bangor, presented Penquis with a $5,000 check to support the Penquis Child Development Centers throughout Bangor.
Penquis Child Development serves children 6 weeks to 5 years of age. Each classroom provides a nurturing environment with early learning opportunities, helping children to develop language, cognitive, physical and social/emotional skills while enabling parents to work, look for work, or attend school or training programs.
The TJX grant will allow the purchase of materials to optimize learning, including early childhood literacy opportunities. Items to be purchased will include soft furnishings, toys, books, and surfacing to create inviting areas for children to engage in reading. “We are incredibly thankful for being chosen as the recipient for this TJX grant award. Especially in times of tight budgets, these dollars are extremely helpful to our program,” said Kara Hay, Operations Manager, Penquis Child Development.
The TJX Foundation has a primary mission of contributing to programs that help disadvantaged women, children and families. Penquis Child Development primarily serves children from low income families whose parents are working, looking for work, or attending school or training programs.
For the last four years, TJ Maxx sales associates have volunteered their time to read to children at Penquis Child Development Centers. “Quality early childhood education helps parents go to work and prepares children to enter kindergarten. We are familiar with the quality of care and education these children receive and we are happy to be providing funds that will enhance additional learning opportunities for the children,” said Mitzi Rogers, Store Manager, TJ Maxx, Bangor, in a press release.
