Peace Education Library Workshop for Educators, Parents or Community Members
October 7th 3:30 – 5:00
Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine
96 Harlow Street, Bangor
Please join us on Monday, October 7, from 3:30-5 p.m. at the Peace & Justice Center in Bangor for a workshop on the Center’s new peace education lending library, which contains over 300 volumes on K-12 conflict resolution, bullying prevention, peer mediation, diversity education and restorative justice. The library was donated to the Center by the Peace & Reconciliation Studies Program at the University of Maine, Orono.
Barbara Blazej, adjunct faculty with the Peace & Reconciliation Studies Program, will facilitate the workshop. As part of the K-12 Youth Violence Prevention Project at UMaine from 1996-2010, funded by the Maine Department of Health & Human Services, Barb was in charge of building this resource library for all Maine citizens. During this workshop, participants will learn about the different kinds of books in the library and how they might be used in classrooms or other settings. The workshop would be of interest to any educator, parent or community member who would like to know more about these peace education topics and find ways to teach these topics to children of all ages.
The registration fee to attend the workshop is $10 per person, payable at the workshop on October 7. To register, or for more information, please email the Peace & Justice Center at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 942-9343, before October 1.
Attendees will receive a Certificate of Participation for the 1.5 hours.
