Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC) will be hosting its fifth annual Dental Academy from April 22-24th. PCHC’s Dental Center hosts the career exploration camp for students preparing to enter Grade 9 thru Grade 12 to provide opportunities for them to learn about dental careers through job shadowing and participation in hands-on learning activities. Activities at the three-day camp at 1048 Union Street, Bangor, include: job shadowing with Dentists, Dental Hygienists and Dental Assistants during a variety of procedures, making Dental impressions (molds of mouth), practice on a Dental Simulator (computerized, robotic patient), learning how to do dental suturing, career planning, HIPAA, and bloodborne pathogens and infection control.
The cost for the dental career experience is $75 per student and includes supplies, lunches, and snacks. Limited scholarships are available for those candidates who are unable to pay the fee. PCHC’s extends its appreciation to UMA Bangor for their faculty support. PCHC’s Dental Academy is sponsored by: PCHC Dental Center, Eastern Maine AHEC, UMA Bangor, and the University of New England.
