ELLSWORTH, Maine – Maine Coast Memorial Hospital has recently installed several photos by local photographer Patrick Downey in the Mary Dow Cancer Center of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital.

Jayne Wixon, RN, CRNI, clinical nurse manager of the Mary Dow Center, contacted Downey about his work. “Charlie [our CEO] had hoped to see photographs of the down east area throughout the clinic, and I wanted to incorporate elements of nature into our interior design. In the clinic we have these great windows looking out over the garden, but we also have some space with limited natural light. I had learned about Patrick’s work from his father, and had admired it for quite some time; his photography brings the beauty of nature into those spaces and accomplishes both goals.”

Downey was happy to not only provide prints at cost, but to donate the largest piece to make the new infusion center a welcoming and comfortable place, “My parents both used the Mary Dow center when getting cancer treatments, so this center was important to them.”

Downey is currently a finalist in Outdoor Photographer Magazine’s “American Landscape 2013″ annual photo contest and you can find out more him and his work on Facebook.
