BAR HARBOR — Hot on the heels of the first day of spring, gardening expert Reeser Manley will be at the Jesup Memorial Library on Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m. to talk about gardening in Maine, and to sign copies of his gorgeous new book, “The New England Gardener’s Year: A Month-by-Month Guide for Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Upstate New York.”

As a fun bonus for MDI residents, the book features the gardens of Bar Harbor’s own master gardener, Jan McIntyre. “It’s very exciting to be included in Reeser’s book,” she said. “I’m just thrilled. And it’s a beautiful book.”

It’s a comprehensive full-color what-to/when-to/how-to reference manual that focuses on organic methods and native plants, and features photo-essay tours of outstanding owner-maintained gardens including Ms. McIntyre’s.

Mr. Reeser, with more than 40 years of gardening experience, has a Bachelor of Science in biology, a Master of Science in botany, and a Ph.D. in horticultural science. He writes extensively about gardening, and is a garden photographer as well.

Copies of “The New England Gardener’s Year: A Month-by-Month Guide for Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Upstate New York” will be available for purchase at this event, and a portion of proceeds goes to the Jesup library. Sherman’s book store is a co-sponsor and will be providing the books.
