BELFAST, Maine —  The Cardiac Rehab program at Waldo County General Hospital will hold an open house to introduce its phase 3 program from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 13, in the cardiac rehab space on the first floor of the hospital. During part of that time, phase 3 participants will be working out as they do twice a week for up to an hour and a half.

The hospital has run a phase 2 program for more than 10 years, but recently added phase 3. Phase 1 occurs while a patient who has suffered a heart “event” is still hospitalized. Phase 2 is an eight- to 12-week exercise program that is closely supervised and monitored.

Insurance does not cover the phase 3 program. The cost is $40 per month. Phase 3 is open to participants who have suffered a cardiac event or have risk factors that could lead to such an event.
