Oil cleanup planned at South Street roundabout in Gorham

Posted June 30, 2014, at 10:53 a.m.

GORHAM, Maine — On Tuesday, July 1, crews from Clean Harbors Inc. will be performing work to determine the extent of contamination from the oil spill that occurred June 11 at the South Street roundabout, according to a Maine Department of Transportation press release.

Due to the northbound side of the roundabout being closed, motorists will be detoured around the work area. Traffic coming from Gorham Center will be detoured west to Route 112 north (Gorham bypass). Traffic originating south of Gorham Center will be routed to Day Road then to Bracket Road to Saco Street and onto Route 22.

In addition to detour signage, message boards will advise drivers on Main Street, School Street and Narragansett Street of these detours.

While minimal delays are anticipated, motorists should allow extra time when traveling through the area.
