Posted March 19, 2013, at 11:14 a.m.

WASHINGTON — What better way to celebrate reading than by combining a lively book discussion with a special meal?

This unique weaving of tale and table highlights the Gibbs Library Youth Book Reading Series.

The first book to be discussed at 5:30 p.m. April 6 is Navigating Early by Clair Vanderpool. The book is an odyssey-like adventure of two boys’ incredible quest on the Appalachian Trail where they deal with pirates, buried secrets, and extraordinary encounters. The boys meet in a Maine boarding school.

Kate and Nick Nichols will prepare a nutrious meal for the readers that reflects the journey along the Trail. The Nichols read the book carefully and then create a meal that reflects the era, the characters and the plotline.

The Reading Series is open to 4th Grade readers and older. To participate, books are available at the Library on Kindles or in hardcover. Participation is free.

The discussion group will continue with this year’s Newbery Award winning book, Only One Ivan by Katherine Applegate at 5:30 on May 6th and a discussion of Dodger by Terry Pratchett on June 1st.

Gibbs Library is located at 40 Old Union Road, Washington. FMI call 845-2663.
