BANGOR, Maine – Every month, the staff and students of Northeast Technical Institute (NTI) are actively engaged in school sponsored initiatives that help raise awareness and much needed funds for local charities.

This June, NTI’s Student Senate Committee decided to hold a yard sale at its Bangor campus to help the Bangor Homeless Shelter.  Students and staff worked together to gather household items, clothing, sporting equipment, toys and electronics.

On Saturday, June 14th, staff and students showed their commitment by working on a rainy, windy day to hold this month’s charity event to help the Bangor Homeless Shelter. The shelter received a cash donation along with a $200 donation of home goods.  In addition to the homeless shelter, NTI’s yard sale raised and donated items to the Bangor Humane Society, Goodwill and also donated additional items with a value of $1000 to the Bangor Attic.

NTI wants to thank the energetic Girl Scouts from two local troops also volunteered their time to assist in making this event such a success.

Both NTI campuses; Bangor and Scarborough maintain ongoing efforts to support the communities where they live and work. Their students appreciate the opportunity to belong to a school that makes it easy to fit charity work into their busy lives.

Some of the other charities who have benefited from these efforts include but are not limited to: American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Boys to Men, Center for Grieving Children, Jobs for Maine’s Graduates (JMG), March of Dimes, Local Food Pantries, Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, Local Angel Tree and Susan G. Komen.
