NORTH MONTVILLE, Maine — The historic North Montville Baptist Church will open its doors for services at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at its location on Hilldale Road, off Route 220. This service will be led by guest speaker the Rev. Ken Caverno, who with his wife Candy, form bluegrass gospel duet Olive Branch.
The original church congregation was reorganized in 1836 and the church was built in 1856 and the original structure is still in use. The church is heated by two wood-burning stoves, and the piano and pump organ are more than 100 years old. The only addition to the building has been electricity.
The church is maintained by a small group of members, led my curator Melvin McCorrison, whose ancestors attended the church in the 1800s. Some of the books, hymnals and the altar Bible bear some of their names.
Church services will be held at 3 p.m. the first and third Sundays until November.
Musicians who wish to share their talents in Christian music may call 946-5727.
