NMDC Offers Free Compost Class in Celebration of Earth Day

CARIBOU — Earth Day is a day to remember our responsibility to the environment and to celebrate the natural wonders of the planet. Northern Maine Development Commission and the Northern Maine Solid Waste Management Committee are teaming up to offer a free compost class that includes an Earth Machine compost bin in order to celebrate Earth Day.

Pre-registration for the compost class is required and class space is limited to 10 people. The class will be held Monday, April 22, from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. at NMDC’s office, located at 11 West Presque Isle Road, Caribou. Please contact Connie Akerson, Environmental Planner, at 498-8736, or toll free at 1-800-427-8736 to register for the class.

Established in 1967, Northern Maine Development Commission is a nonprofit organization that provides regional planning, economic and community development, workforce investment, business loans and packaging, geographic information system services, and small business counseling services to the northern Maine region. Northern Maine Development Commission recently received funding from the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA-RD) Solid Waste Management Grant Program to undertake waste reduction activities in NMDC’s service area.
