National Guard helps Orono Historical move monument base

ORONO, Maine — The 1136th Transportation Unit of the Maine National Guard assisted the Orono Historical Society on Aug. 2, in its Phase II  restoration of Orono’s Civil War Monument by removing the monument’s pedestal in Webster Park and transporting it for repairs to the studio of Peter Crockett at Argyle Iron Works.

 Phase I’s restoration of the soldier statue was completed in July under the direction of Peter Crockett.

The restoration project has been supported by contributions from  Orono residents, former residents,businesses, service groups, and veterans organizations.
