Mug Season 2013 with Central Maine Clay Artists at Harlow

Posted March 12, 2013, at 2:57 p.m.
HALLOWELL, Maine — Central Maine Clay Artists and the Harlow Gallery invite the public to a free Mug Making Workshop from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, at the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell.
Central Maine Clay Artists will demonstrate techniques and will help you create your own special mug with style.  The mugs will be offered for sale to benefit the art departments at area schools.  (You may elect purchase the mug you create.)  Finished mugs will be available for pick up after two weeks (to allow for firing).

If you are interested in purchasing a unique Mug Season mug, they will be available for a limited time at the following local businesses: Slate’s Bakery in Hallowell, Water Street Café in Gardiner, The Flaky Tart in Winthrop, Ye Old Post Office Café in Mt. Vernon, Bagel Mainea in Augusta and the Downtown Diner in Augusta.

2013 marks the 6th year of Mug Season, when Central Maine Clay Artists use the power of art to raise money for area schools.  Each year local potters and clay artists donate their work, time and energy to create handcrafted ceramic mugs to be offered for sale at area coffee shops.  A portion of the proceeds is donated to area schools including Whitefield, Maranacook, Gardiner, Cony, Hall-Dale, and Erskine Academy.  ‘We make the donations to the art departments to help them pay for supplies.  We know how expensive it is to fund the arts, but we also know how important it is.  We wouldn’t be working as artists if it weren’t for our exposure to classes and materials.  We just want to make sure that continues.’ says Malley Weber, president of the CMCA and owner of Hallowell Clay Works.

Other Central Maine Clay Artist members are Loken Pottery, The Potter’s House, Maple Lane Pottery, Fine Mess Pottery, Ditch Lily, Bentley, Mud Girl, Elizabeth Thorp, and Raw Earth Designs.
