Lee Maine – Mt. Jefferson Ski Area is celebrating its 50th year in operation this 2014 Season. From humble beginnings a group of six families interested in providing winter fun for their children banded together. Attaching a rope to a John Deere tractor, people from the community got their first experience in downhill skiing, and the idea for Mt. Jefferson Ski Area was developed. In 1964, after creating 7 trails, the lift and a lodge, the original families, now owners, opened for business. Those included were: Floyd and Maude Cobb, Claude and Charlene Scribner, Roland and Joan Scribner, Alton and Betty Pickering, Bernard and Gloria Staples and Byron and Susan Delano, Sr. In 1979 the late Byron Delano, Sr. obtained sole ownership and today, the mountain celebrates its 50th year of operation due to the continued dedication of Susan, her six children and their families. With 12 trails and 3 lifts, the mountain provides skiing and snowboarding adventures for local community members and out-of-staters alike.
Mt. Jefferson Ski Area will be hosting a series of activities to celebrate their 50th year on Martin Luther King, Jr. week-end. Events will be rescheduled for an alternate week-end if there are poor weather conditions as we depend on “Mother Nature” for our snow.
