BAR HARBOR — The American Library Association has declared the week of April 21-27 “Money Smart Week” to promote personal financial literacy, and the Jesup Memorial Library will be offering free programs about starting a business in Bar Harbor, and getting your financial life started right this week.
On Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m., Peter Hastings will give a presentation about the ins and outs of starting a business in Bar Harbor. Mr. Hastings is operations manager at Leary’s Landing Irish Pub in Bar Harbor. He graduated from Hamden Academy in 2001 and has a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Bowdoin College. He joined the Bar Harbor Planning Board in 2010, and is currently chairman.
On Saturday, April 27, at 10:30 a.m., in a program co-sponsored by the YWCA of MDI, Debbie Mitchell-Dow will guide folks through the tricky business of getting their financial lives off to a good start. She is assistant vice president and branch relationship manager of Bar Harbor Bank and Trust. This program is designed for people in their teens and early 20s, but is open to everyone. “It can be the little things, like avoiding overdrafts, that can make all the difference,” she said.
These are free programs and open to everyone. For more information, contact the library at 288-4245.
