The Women’s Health Resource Library of Milbridge will hold the third annual Elaine Hill Memorial Walk on Saturday, October 22, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. The three mile walk begins at the Milbridge town marina, heads down Fickett Point Road to Elaine Hill’s former residence and returns. Walkers may be sponsored by donations or pay an entry fee of $10. Sponsor forms may be picked up at the Women’s Health Resource Library next to the Milbridge Medical Center Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. or accessed from the Library’s webpage www.whrl.org.
Registration opens at 9:30 at the marina, with the first 100 walkers receiving a Memorial Walk t-shirt. There will be a water station at the turn-around. A cookout for all participants follows the walk, with an award ceremony to honor the team with the greatest number of participants and the walker who collected the largest amount in donations. Tickets for a 50/50 raffle will be sold at the event.
Proceeds from the walk benefit the Elaine Hill Scholarship Fund which provides a nursing scholarship for a graduating Narraguagus High School senior and a scholarship to a non-traditional student returning to school to pursue a nursing education. Elaine Hill was nurse at the Milbridge Medical Center for over 30 years and died of breast cancer in 2009. The WHRL, in collaboration with the family of Elaine Hill, established these scholarships to continue Elaine’s legacy of compassion by supporting students who choose the nursing profession.
Everyone is welcome to join the walk and register that morning. For more information, call the Women’s Health Resource Library at 546-7677.
