GARLAND, Maine — Tom Desjardin, Civil War historian and author, will offer remarks at the annual Memorial Day ceremony at 8 a.m. Monday, May 26, at the Garland Veterans Memorial. This year’s spotlight will be on Dr. Elisha Coan of Garland, for his prominent participation in the Civil War battle of Little Round Top. Coan was born in Exeter, enlisted in the war at age 19 and fought at Gettysburg under Joshua Chamberlain. A release of red, white and blue balloons honoring freedom and the bravery and sacrifice of veterans past and present will conclude the service, which will be under the direction of Wendell Giles, U.S. Army veteran and vice commander of American Legion Post 53, with other veterans participating. 924-3835 or email mga@tdstelme.net
