MCI Drama to perform benefit show

Posted May 06, 2013, at 3:35 p.m.

PITTSFIELD, Maine — Maine Central Institute will present its spring musical revue production, “When I Grow Up, A Cabaret for Cancer”  at 2 and 7:30 p.m. May 18, at the Pittsfield Community Theatre on Main Street.

“When I Grow Up, A Cabaret for Cancer” was created by MCI students and includes songs from a variety of current and classic Broadway Musicals. It is choreographed by Mollie Sharples as part of her senior project at MCI and features a cast of nine students. It is directed by MCI Drama Program Director Rachel Damon.

Maine Central Institute’s school theme for 2012-2013 is “Kindness.” As a result, the students in Drama Club decided they wanted to make the spring production a fundraiser for organizations that help families affected by children’s cancer. All proceeds will be split between Pittsfield’s “Keepin’ On Foundation,” and Camp Sunshine in Saco. Camp Sunshine has a grant that will match any donations raised as part of this event.

This fundraising effort is completely student driven and an additional group of students led by sophomores Trinity Bachrach and Lexi LaMarre are coordinating a live auction, which will take place at intermission to raise additional funds.

For more information about the auction or to donate items please contact cabaretforcancer@gmail.com.  Students have made a promotional video about the production that can be found at http://tinyurl.com/cabaret4cancer.

Tickets for “When I Grow Up, A Cabaret for Cancer” are $5 and available from members of MCI Drama and at the door.  The production runs approximately one hour and forty five minutes including an intermission.

Additional information about this production can be found at www.facebook.com/cabaretforcancer.  Please contact Rachel Damon at rdamon@mci-school.org with other questions.
