BANGOR, Maine — The next generation style of McDonald’s® restaurants opened its doors at 665 Hogan Road in Bangor on July 11, with a ribbon-cutting and flag raising ceremony by members of the Bangor VFW honor guard.

In addition, donations were made to the Bangor Recreation Department and Camp Capella to provide area children with scholarships to each of the organizations’ summer programs. Dignitaries in attendance included city officials, members of the Chamber of Commerce and state legislators. The ceremony kicked off a month-long grand opening celebration that will feature daily specials and weekly raffles for five Waterfront Concerts, two of which are VIP Experience Packages.

“On behalf of the Eckmann family, we are very pleased to have been a part of the Bangor/Brewer business community for more than 25 years,” stated Owner/Operator Gary Eckmann who purchased the Hogan Road McDonald’s in 1986. “We look forward to welcoming all of our former customers – and new ones, as well – to our new, modern restaurant conveniently located in this thriving sector of Bangor.”

Reflecting McDonald’s newest restaurant design elements, the 4,400-square-foot restaurant offers customers seating for 96 and free wi-fi in a contemporary and inviting environment. The McCafé® offers favorite coffee choices, such as lattes produced from freshly roasted espresso. The expanding McCafé beverage line also includes ice blended Frappés, Real Fruit Smoothies, Shakes, Cherry Berry Chillers, Frozen Strawberry Lemonade and Newman’s Own Organics® Iced Coffee.

McDonald’s Owner/Operators Gary and Marty Eckmann of Bangor have personalized the restaurant’s interior design with large wall murals featuring the Maine outdoors such as mountain and ocean scenery and wildlife photography. Exterior features include beautiful landscaping and a side-by-side drive-thru for faster service.

Behind the scenes, the new McDonald’s restaurant utilizes the latest service systems including a new inside front counter system for more efficient and accurate customer service with the latest technology to support it. With a respect for the environment, the Eckmanns have incorporated several energy saving components such as an energy efficient HVAC system and an energy management system for more efficient refrigeration, lighting, and heating. In addition, a storm water filtration system was installed in the parking lot to clean surface water before it goes into the storm drains.

A number of local and Maine businesses executed the majority of the interior and exterior construction work including electricians, plumbers, masons and contractors such as Noyes Construction of Glenburn; Carmel Electric of Hermon; The Greenworks Landscaping of Bangor; Hughes Bros., Inc. of Hampden; North Atlantic Tile of Surry; S & S Masonry, Holden; Unity Plumbing, Unity; Lindsey Foundations, Milford; Roof Systems of Maine, Bangor; E J Drywall, Greene; Architectural Doors & Windows, Brewer; Scripture’s Concrete, Levant; Hussey Paint, Hampden; Franck Acoustics, Brewer; Bangor Wholesale Laminates, Bangor; Maine Fire Protection, Bangor; Sign Services, Stetson; Bangor Gas, Bangor; and Northeast Restaurant Equipment, Eddington. People’s United Bank of Bangor facilitated the financing.

In celebration of its grand opening, the Hogan Road McDonald’s will be holding weekly drawings on Fridays for giveaways that include tickets to five Waterfront Concerts in Bangor. All tickets include VIP Platinum Tent Access Passes, with early access to the stage, members only restrooms and a special tent area to relax during the concert.
