WESTBROOK, Maine — Mark Publicker, M.D., was chosen for inclusion in Down East Magazine’s “Maine TopDocs Physician Survey 2014” as one of the top physicians in the field of Addiction Medicine. The physicians who made the list were chosen through a peer review in which Maine doctors were asked who they would go to for help if their own family members had health concerns in the specified areas.

Dr. Publicker is an addiction medicine specialist practicing at the Mercy Hospital Recovery Center in Westbrook Maine, the State’s largest drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. Prior to moving to Maine 10 years ago, he was Chief of Addiction Medicine for Kaiser Permanente in the Washington DC region. He has lectured on addiction medicine at Chinese universities and helped to establish a residential rehabilitation program for homeless drug-addicted boys in Turkey.

He is a fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine and at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Publicker is the President of the Northern New England Society of Addiction Medicine and is Editor-in-Chief of the ASAM Magazine, his specialty society’s online journal. He is an outspoken advocate for access to treatment for those suffering from addictive disorders and has a special interest in treating pregnant women.

In 2009, he was named Caregiver of the Year by the Maine Hospital Association.

He lives in Gorham.
