Posted March 14, 2013, at 7:01 p.m.

BLUE HILL, Maine — There will be an observance of the National Gun Violence Prevention Sabbath Weekend at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at the Blue Hill Town Hall auditorium.

The local observance is part of a nationally organized effort involving nearly 50 denominations and faith-based organizations — including Faiths United to Prevent Gun Violence, The PICO Network, and the Washington National Cathedral — which have worked together in planning the May 15-17 Gun Violence Prevention Sabbath Weekend to “engage houses of worship nationwide in reflection, unity, and action.”

Sunday’s observance in Blue Hill will include readings, meditations and reflection offered by leaders of several area faith groups — including Unitarian-Universalist, Methodist, Congregationalist, Episcopal and Baptist — from Castine, Ellsworth, Blue Hill and Deer Isle/Stonington.
