Become a Maine Volunteer Lake Monitor at the Downeast Lakes Land Trust and gather credible scientific information pertaining to local lake health. Scott Williams, the Executive Director of the Maine Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program will lead the day-long training that extends beyond the classroom and out on to West Grand Lake.

This workshop will train and certify volunteers to collect scientific data for a wide range of indicators of lake water quality, including clarity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, and total phosphorus. Workshop participants are also provided with information concerning the monitoring and documentation of additional aquatic phenomena that may be associated with lake health, including the presence and abundance of various algae.

In addition to being the primary source of lake data in the State of Maine, VLMP volunteers benefit their local lakes by playing key stewardship and leadership roles in their communities.
