LEWISTON – Healthy Androscoggin’s AmeriCorps, VetCorps VISTA is the founder of Maine Veterans Community Service Projects in Lewiston.

The mission of MVCSP is to recognize veterans who make a difference in Maine. MVCSP inspires veterans to engage in community service, education and advocacy. The goal of the project is to build a community that honors the sacrifice and service of the American military, to act as a supportive network, to inspire others and bridge the gap between military and civilian communities.

Smith developed MVCSP in conjunction with her tasks as an AmeriCorps VetCorps VISTA. VetCorps is a national project that utilizes community coalitions to address the health, housing and employment challenges that veterans, military service members and their families face. In addition, Smith provides training and education on military suicide, military cultural competence, military sexual trauma and other impact issues.

Smith is a Veterans Prevention Coordinator at Healthy Androscoggin. She is a member of Maine’s Team Red White & Blue, Team Rubicon, CrossFit Lewiston and volunteer for American Red Cross.

Smith is a US Marine Corps Veteran. She currently serves in the US Navy Reserve. She served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
