Thursday, July 10, at 7:00 pm at the monthly Maine Boatbuilding Forum, Maine’s port pilots will gather to share their memories and honor the legacy of Captain William Abbott. Capt. Abbott, who passed away this year, was a 1945 graduate of Maine Maritime Academy. He spent fifty years piloting vessels into many ports including those of the Penobscot River and Bay. Many of Maine’s port pilots were mentored by Capt. Abbott. They will share memories and lessons learned from Capt. Abbott as they honor his legacy of providing safe passage through difficult waters. Admission is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted towards the digitization of the Capt. Bill Abbott Photography Collection at Penobscot Marine Museum.
To give the public an opportunity to meet boat builders and boat captains, the Maine Boatbuilding Forum is held monthly at Penobscot Marine Museum. It is held in PMM’s Main Street Gallery, 40 East Main Street, Searsport, Maine. For more information go to www.penobscotmarinemuseum.org or call 207-548-2529 or 207-548-0334.
