2013 Maine Games State Powerlifting Championships set for March 23 in Brewer
New Hampshire athletes invited for first time. Medalists qualify for 2013 State Games of America
BREWER, MAINE – January 10, 2013 – Registration for the 2013 Maine Games State Powerlifting Championships presented by Creative Digital is now officially open, and an early bird discount is available through January 31 for the 9th annual event is expected to sell out early.
The 2013 Maine Games powerlifting event is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, at the Brewer Auditorium at 318 Wilson Street. The event is open to athletes 10 years of age and older. This is a clean meet run under USAPL rules, however this is a non-sanctioned meet. Random drug-testing is held at the conclusion of the meet.
Medalists in this year’s meet will automatically qualify for the 2013 State Games of America, being held this summer in Hershey/Harrisburg, PA.
Maine’s strongest men, women, and teens are again expected to compete at the Maine Games powerlifting meet which is among the largest meets in the Northeast each year. For the first time, athletes from New Hampshire are also being invited.
“Because this is a qualification year for the State Games of America, and because New Hampshire doesn’t have an official State Games organization, we’re opening up our meet to athletes from the Granite State to allow them the opportunity to qualify to compete in our national amateur sports festival,” said Maine Games executive director, Jeff Scully.
Last year more than 60 registrations were received, and more than 20 of those were first-time competitors using the Maine Games as their inaugural powerlifting competition.
Athletes can choose to compete in either the full meet (squat, bench press, and dead lift) or the bench press-only meet.
The 2013 meet will feature a new division for those lifting with “Slingshot/Ram” lifting gear.
Discount registration pricing is available during the month of January, while the regular pricing is in effect in February. If space is still available for registration in March, it will include a late fee, and will shut off in any event, on March 20.
