Maine Department of Corrections names Youth Development Center superintendent

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Department of Corrections announced Friday that Jeff Merrill II has accepted the superintendent position at Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.

Merrill has a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Colby College in Waterville, and additional training in corrections through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and Maine State Prison. He brings 23 years of correctional experience to the job, according to the DOC press release.

Merrill has held a variety of positions through his history and the last 15 years have involved high-level management experience. He is well versed in both the security/operations  and the programming side of correctional management. He has had a successful track record working with community agencies and functioning as a program director for Volunteers of America. Most recently Merrill  has worked as acting superintendent at Long Creek Youth Development Center, and as such has displayed strong leadership and management abilities.
