AUGUSTA, ME – On Tuesday, April 23, more than 20 Maine vendors featuring more than 65 Maine-made products participated in the Maine State Chamber of Commerce’s “Taste of Maine” on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. More than 600 people attended the reception, which showcased an impressive array of the many outstanding culinary products Maine has to offer.
More than twenty Maine farms, restaurants, breweries, distilleries and vineyards participated in the “Taste of Maine,” held in the historic Kennedy Caucus Room of the Russell Senate Office Building Tuesday evening. Maine Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King, along with several other U.S. Senators and guests, were on hand to sample Maine-made foods and beverages.
“The Taste of Maine event was not only a great way for us to get our beer in front of the nation’s policymakers and their staff — especially Maine’s delegation — it was a welcome opportunity to meet and mingle with other food-related innovators and entrepreneurs from around our great state,” said one Maine participant, H. Luke Livingston, who is President & Founder of Baxter Brewing Co., in the Maine State Chamber’s press release.
Another participant, Bettina Doulton, owner and operator of Cellardoor Winery, said, “It was an honor and a lot of fun to be part of the Taste of Maine event attended by Sens. King and Collins. Based on the huge attendance, there’s clearly lots of interest about what Maine has to offer.”
“The allure of the ‘State of Maine’ is so powerful, it’s on the ‘Bucket Lists’ of travelers everywhere,” added participant Lisa Giulianelli of Oats Any Time. “To be able to take a ‘Taste of Maine’ to our nation’s capital to promote not only our state as a destination, but the outstanding bounty that we have to offer, was an outstanding experience.
It was an honor to be included in this inaugural event!”
“Mainers take a great deal of pride in ‘Made in Maine’ products and the Maine State Chamber of Commerce is always eager to help get the word out about the abundance of our great state; from our farms to the ocean, to our restaurants and breweries,” said Dana Connors, President of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce. “The ‘Taste of Maine’ reception was a huge success, and we look forward to hosting this event on Capitol Hill again.”
