What an inviting idea——issue invitations to a variety of guests to come for dinner and fill the empty space at the family table left by a military husband and father deployed to Africa for a year!! When Bangor author, Sarah Smiley’s husband departed, she was left alone to take care of their three sons, ages 4 to 12. To fill the void at the table and deal with the lonliness and tension felt by her and the boys, Smiley decided to invite people from the community and the state to come for dinner. In her book, “Dinner With The Smileys” one will learn who came and how they interacted with the family.
“Dinner With The Smileys” isn’t just about dinner, or the military—it’s a love story about marriage, motherhood, and the importance of community in all of our lives. The Friends of the Waldoboro Public Library invite you to their first program of the new year on Saturday, January 18, at 1:00 PM at the library. Copies of Smiley’s book will be available for purchase, cash or checks only, please. This is a free program open to the public. For more information, please contact the library at 832-4484 or visit the library’s web site at www.waldoborolibrary.org.
