BETHEL, Maine — The Mahoosuc Arts Council has been awarded a grant for $2,700 from the New England Foundation for the Arts through the New England States Touring Program to support the presentation of an a Syncopation, an a capella jazz quartet sensation from Boston. Syncopation will perform in April as part of the council’s annual

Gould and Telstar Performing Arts Series.

This group is known for electrifying versatility in jazz, bebop, Latin, pop, R&B, soul, folk, fusion and electropop through four-part vocal harmony. Billed as the Modern Day Manhattan Transfer, Syncopation is comprised of virtuoso vocalists, several of whom are also music educators. The council presented this group in 2010 to a mesmerized elementary school audience. Feedback showed there was resounding demand from the adult population to bring this group back for community performances.

The public performance will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 2,  at Bingham Auditorium, 45 Church St., on the Gould Academy Campus. The group will also perform April 3 for the Telstar Regional Middle and High Schools and for area home schooled and district charter school students. The grant will go toward covering part of the artist fees to the three performances.

The Mahoosuc Arts Council, which has been supporting the advancement of the arts and humanities of the adult communities and school systems of the Greater Bethel Area since 1986, is able to present Syncopation with funding also in part by grants from Gould Academy, SAD 44, private and corporate donations.

Tickets are $15. Students are free. If you are a home schooler or parent and would like to be included in the announcements for Mahoosuc Arts Programming, please contact 207-890-6386info@mahoosucarts.org or www.mahoosucarts.org.
