MACHIAS, Maine — The Machias 250th Birthday Committee is hosting a series of historic lectures over the next few months, building the excitement towards a week of special events in June. The presentations feature a wide range of local speakers, actors and educators. Some of the topics include dating antiques, heirloom gardens, the history of agriculture in Washington County, historical slide shows, period impersonators, and others.
Kicking off the series is Donald Soctomah, the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer for the Passamaquoddy Tribe, who will present a program on the history of the Passamaquoddy Tribe and its role in the U.S. Revolution.
All of the presentations will be at the Kay Parker Building on Hadley Lake Road. Soctomah will be speaking at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, January 24. Coffee, tea and cookies will be provided by Hannaford of Machias.
