Machias Bay Chamber to host Eggs and Issues on Bold Coast Scenic Byway

MACHIAS, Maine — The Machias Bay Chamber of Commerce is hosting Crystal Hitchings, regional coordinator for the Bold Coast Scenic Byway, at its April 16 Eggs and Issues Forum.

Hitchings will discuss the benefits of the Bold Coast Scenic Byway to the economic and cultural health of the region, and will discuss next steps to be taken in implementing the draft goals of the Corridor Management Plan.

Crystal is working with the Maine Department of Transportation and a local volunteer Advisory Group to to create a Byway plan that highlights the most important assets of the Byway region, describes existing efforts to promote and protect these assets, and creates a framework for future promotion, protection, and appropriate development of these assets.

The Byway will be an important component to any tourist related business in the coast region. It runs along Route 1 from Milbridge to Eastport, and includes Routes 187, 189, and 191 through Jonesport, Cutler, and Lubec.

Eggs and Issues forums begin at 7 a.m. at Helen’s Restaurant. The final forum of the season will be held on May 21 and will focus on Stepping It Up: Customer Service. The series will then resume in October. For more information, call 255.4402.
