Lunch & Health – Alternative Therapies: Acupuncture in a Nutshell with Acupencturist Sharon Gordon

Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, 521 Main Street in Damariscotta will host its Wednesday Lunch and Learn program on July 9 at 11:15am. Following the Center’s “After the 4th” Summer Barbeque Luncheon, Acupuncturist Sharon Gordon, will present a program titled “Acupuncture in a Nutshell”. Acupuncture is one of the oldest continuously practiced healing systems in the world. It has a helped billions of people worldwide for over 5,000 years. Sharon’s presentation will focus on how acupuncture works to help alleviate pain, reduce inflammation and stress and how acupuncture restores vitality and helps slow the aging process.

Sharon Gordon has been a Licensed, National Board Certified, 5 Element Acupuncturist since 1996, completing her Master of Acupuncture degree from the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture, Florida in 2001. Sharon specializes in Women’s Health and chronic pain and worked with an Osteopathic Physician in an integrative medical practice for over 17 years. She recently relocated to Damariscotta from NYC.

Come to Sharon’s presentation on July 9 for insights regarding how Advanced Luncheon Reservations are required. Please call 563-1363 by noon on Monday, July 7 to make your luncheon reservation for the Center’s Independence Day Barbeque featuring grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. For those over 60 years of age the suggested donation is $5.00 per person. For all others, Coastal Lunch and Learn program is an affordable dining choice at $6.00 per person.

Can’t make it to lunch? Community members are always welcome to attend the Center’s Wednesday Learn portion of the day’s Lunch and Learn program, which will begin at noon.

As a follow-up to Sharon’s Lunch and Learn presentation, she will be offering the following group acupuncture sessions on Friday, July 11, at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. . Advanced registration required. To register call 563-1363 by 4:00 p.m. on July 10.

ACUPUNCTURE: Embark On Your Path To A Healthier Body, Mind and Spirit. Ear acupuncture and tapping for stress reduction appointments with Sharon Gordon, L.Ac., M.Ac. Helps calm the central nervous system that leads to improved sleep and stress and pain reduction. Fee: $25 per person.

Before, during and after lunch, Center visitors can also participate in and enjoy the following Wednesday programs:

TNT Whole Body Fitness: A new fitness class taught by senior fitness professional Robin Maginn that offers a total body workout. Drop in fee $5.

Heart Healthy Blood Pressure Clinic with registered nurse Jini Lewis, Wednesdays, from 11 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. FREE.

On Balance: Getting Stronger-Living Longer, Wednesdays, 10:30 am. Gentle exercises for strength, flexibility and balance with Robin Maginn for those who are a little bit timid or who haven’t exercised in a while. $4 per class. Sign-up and pay for lunch and the class is only $2.

Cribbage or Scrabble: After Lunch Pick-Up Games. Fee $1. Free for luncheon guests. Wednesdays, 1 PM.

Conversational French: Get Together with Suzanne Hedrick is a great way to renew your French language skills. Fee $5. Wednesdays, 1 PM.
