Longtime Newport officer promoted to sergeant

NEWPORT — Police Chief Leonard Macdaid has announced the promotion of longtime Newport  Officer David Wintle to the rank of sergeant.

Wintle, 45, of Newburgh, has worked for Newport Police Department for 18 years, and has an exemplary work record, according to the chief.

Wintle’s promotion was effective June 23.

The chief said that he and the rest of the department wishes Sgt. Wintle luck in his new position, and they have the utmost confidence in his success.
