4th Annual Contest Winners Announced
in the Deep River Books Writer’s Contest
March 20, 2013, Sisters, Oregon—On Wednesday, the Grand Prize winners were announced in the 4th Annual Deep River Books Writer’s Contest. Since November, judges have been sifting through hundreds of manuscripts to find ‘diamonds in the rough.’
“It is astounding how many amazing manuscripts are saved to a desktop, gathering dust in a drawer, or burning passion in the hearts of authors across the country. Some are actively seeking to be published, and others lack the confidence to actually share what they have written,” says Bill Carmichael Publisher and CEO of Deep River Books. “This contest has proven over and over again, to be a melting pot in which we find pure silver waiting to be refined.”
With entries in the categories of Fiction and Nonfiction, judges carefully narrowed down the selections. Editorial Director for Deep River Books, Kit Tosello said, “With the final judging stages comes a lot of pressure! After reading so many quality manuscripts, the idea of picking just one becomes daunting. Fortunately, in the end, we were all on the same page.”
Congratulations to the Grand Prize winners: Patricia Laster, took home first place in the category of Nonfiction for her manuscript titled Free to Be Me, while Noelle Carle rose to the top of the Fiction category with her tense page-turner titled Waiting for Wren. A close second place was awarded to Lisa Worley and co-author Catherine Weiskopf for their book titled If I Only Had…Following God’s Path to Your Security.
“I couldn’t’ have done it without my husband’s support,” said Noelle Carle after learning she had won. “There was a point when I thought writing was a waste of time, but, Russell wouldn’t let me quit. He would say “This is your gift, even if no one ever sees it.”
Noelle’s novel Waiting for Wren will definitely be seen along with the guided journal Free to Be Me, written by Patricia Laster, (a retired psychology professor from Tennessee). Both authors have been awarded a royalty-based publishing contract with Carmichael Publishing (the parent company of Deep River Books) and will release early in 2014.
