Literacy Volunteers of Waldo County is hosting a workshop for tutors

On Saturday, June 28th, from 8:30 to noon, a free workshop will be held for anyone (with or without experience) who is interested in working with adults on a one-to-one basis to improve their reading and writing skills. For those who do not have previous experience as an adult reading tutor, an introduction to Literacy Volunteers will be given by Colette Jadis, LVWC Coordinator, at 9 AM. For both new and experienced tutors, beginning at 10 AM, Dr. Wendy C. Kasten, Professor Emerita of Curriculum & Instruction in Literacy, will provide an overview of the reading process and present two strategies (Language Experience Approach and Shared Reading Experience) for tutoring all types of learners. Workshop participants will have an opportunity to practice implementing these strategies, as well as to share ideas and resources with other tutors. Light refreshments will be served. The workshop will take place at Belfast Adult Education, 6B Lions Way, Belfast.

For more information, contact Colette at 338-3197 or litvolwc@rsu20.org
