Posted March 11, 2013, at 8:04 p.m.

(Bangor, Maine) – Each day, 20% of our local community members struggle with daily literacy activities such as helping their children with homework and reading prescription instructions. Literacy Volunteers of Bangor is offering a chance to make a difference in these lives by tutoring Bangor area adults who need assistance with literacy. A few hours a week, patience, empathy, flexibility and a passion to make a difference are all that is required of volunteers.

Every volunteer, regardless of their background, receives training during sessions held throughout the year. The Spring Tutor Training begins Monday, April 1st from 6-9 pm and includes 5 Mondays in April and May The training takes place at United Technologies Center on the Hogan Road in Bangor. There is a volunteer contribution of $35 which helps defray the costs of the book and materials. (Scholarships are available). To learn more or to register for the tutor session, contact Literacy Volunteers of Bangor at 947-8451 or kellipittman@lvbangor.org. You can also visit www.lvbangor.org.
